ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Dean Sarmiento

and here’s a little bit about me. I grew up in a pseudo-island town in the San Francisco Bay Area named Alameda where I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by high level athletes, friends, and fellow nerds. My number 1 sport was baseball in which I played for 16 years, while dabbling in basketball and all the pick up sports you can imagine. I am a huge nerd for Star Wars (if Empire Strikes Back isn’t your number one, you should reconsider) and love to get into the ins and outs of the timeline and how it’s been developing in recent years. If you can’t find me training people or myself in the gym, I’m either at home watching shows (probably Star Wars related)/reading a book, eating all the sushi in the world, or out hiking with my girlfriend.

For education, despite my success in formal education, I knew that style of learning wasn’t for me. During my time at Chabot College, I became a certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise. After obtaining my AA in Kinesiology from Chabot College, I began my work in the corporate environment, moving through the ranks and reaching the highest tier as one of the youngest trainers to do so. On this journey, I’ve had the opportunity to continually learn from coaches of the highest level in regards to training, biomechanics, nutrition, communication, psychology, and business. My outside education began with Show Up Fitness, a company dedicated to elevating the industry through educating new trainers on proficient programming, nutrition, anatomy, and business. From there, expanding my knowledge of training through becoming a Pain-Free Performance Specialist, reading books and articles galore, as well as many other valuable courses in regards to communication, biomechanics, and speed training.

However, beside all this, the most I’ve ever learned from is YOU, the client. I’ve had the opportunity of working with so many amazing people from so many different backgrounds and experiences, and I want to be able to share this with you. My goal as a health practitioner is to help utilize elements of everything I’ve learned, from both education and people, to create the proper formula to help you move better, get stronger, and gain confidence in your body so that you can be present in your daily life.

My time in baseball

Baseball has long been apart of my life. It was the only thing I knew for a very long time. This started before I could even walk by watching the Giants on TV through playing for 2 years at a JUCO. Baseball helped form me into the man I am and the approach I use in my personal life and in turn help others lead their own lives.
